Tenant Content Insurance Scheme

Paper workFires, floods, burglaries....we all think that they will never happen to us. Unfortunately that just isn't true.
Every day people find themselves trying to pick up the pieces after a disaster, which may have wrecked their home and damaged or destroyed their possessions.

Those who suffer most are the people who did not have insurance cover for their household contents and who therefore have to foot the bill themselves - a bill that could run into thousands of pounds.

Too many tenants could find themselves in this position because they either think it's a risk worth taking or believe - wrongly - that they are covered by Marches insurance. This is not the case.
Arranging insurance for furniture, decorations and other belongings is always the tenant's responsibility.

A scheme has been introduced by Marches that should make it easier and cheaper to get insured.

Find out more from the following questions and answers:

Q: Why has this scheme been launched?
A: Jephson originally introduced this scheme and we decided we needed to establish a low-cost contents insurance scheme in response to requests from tenants.

Q: How much will it cost?
A: It could cost you as little as 11p a day, although this will depend on your individual circumstances.

Q: Who provides the insurance?
A: It will be arranged by a specialist broker, Allianz Cornhil, and underwritten by Groupama Insurances.

Q: My belongings aren't worth much - will this be reflected in the premium I pay?
A: The minimum value of the contents will be £9000 or £6000 if you are over 60 years old. This may sound a lot, but if you start to think about the cost of replacing all of the items in your home, it soon adds up!

Q: What does the cover include?
A: The policy will enable your possessions to be replaced on a "new for old" basis, (with the exception of linen and clothing which will be replaced at their current value less a deduction for 'wear and tear'), if they are damaged or lost by fire, theft or flooding. Your freezer contents up to £200 are also covered and you can claim up to £250 for replacing your locks if your keys are stolen. A full summary of the policy cover is set out in the prospectus.

Q: What are the limitations on the policy?
A: There is no age limit on the items covered. Also, unlike many schemes, there is no "excess" so you can claim for quite small amounts.

Q: How do I pay?
A: You will be able to pay your premiums fortnightly in any post office, monthly by direct debit or
annually by cheque or credit/debit card.

Q: Can I be sure that this scheme is the best available?
A: We believe it represents good value for money, but we cannot guarantee that it is the cheapest for all tenants. Older people, in particular, may benefit from talking to a specialist provider such as Age Concern - the message is, shop around for the best deal!

Q: How can I find out more?
A: If you would like to request a prospectus and application form, or have any specific queries contact your local office. Once you have completed the application form it should be returned to the administrators Wessex Administration Services Ltd. whose address is on the form. Or Contact us to request an information pack. The prospectus includes a rate card to enable you to see at a glance how much it will cost you depending on the sum insured you choose.
