Shared Ownership
titlesharedownership.jpg
This section is currently under development.
We are committed to involving you in the decisions we make and the work we do wherever possible. We believe that shared owners and leaseholders also have a major role to play in making a difference to service delivery.

We are committed to ensuring that there is an ongoing dialogue between Marches Housing Association and its Leaseholders.
We will produce regular information for shared owners and leaseholders that can also be downloaded here. We will be developing an improved Shared Owners Handbook that will assist in explaining what are our responsibilities as a landlord and what you can expect from us and what we expect from residents.

We will also be holding regular Resident Panel meetings. The Panel will enable shared owners and Leaseholders to influence decision making about issues and raise problems or ideas about improving the service we offer.

If you would like to be part of the forum please contact our Partnership Officer on 01568 619676

What is a Shared Owner?

Shared Owners are people who have purchased an equity share in a shared ownership property and pay rent on the remaining share.

Shared Owners rights and responsibilities are outlined in their Lease. The Lease is a contract which sets out the terms and conditions to be observed by both you and Marches Housing Association. It will state the obligations in relation to paying rent and service charges, maintaining the property and describe the arrangements for purchasing additional shares in your home (this is also known as staircasing).

Although you have not purchased the property outright, you have all the normal rights and responsibilities of a full owner occupier. You are, therefore, advised to ask your legal adviser as well as Marches Housing Association if there are terms you do not understand.
